A New Era for Gonjaland: Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Scholars Head to China for Medical Studies
Gonjaland embarks on a new chapter of development as the first cohort of Bii-Kunuto Scholarship beneficiaries departs Ghana on Friday, October 24, 2025, to pursue medical studies in China.
The pioneering group, including Mahama Jewu Kamal-Deen, Khalid Ebu-yer Najuah, and Basiru Ekonatu Khadija, paid a courtesy visit to the Jakpa Palace on Monday, October 20, to express their profound gratitude to the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I. The scholars acknowledged that this life-changing opportunity was made possible through the vision and generosity of the Overlord.
During the visit, the students received words of encouragement, blessings, and guidance from traditional leaders, including chiefs and queen mothers. The message was unequivocal: remain disciplined, focused, and committed, as their success has the potential to bring pride and drive sustainable development in Gonjaland.
In a show of commitment, the scholars signed an undertaking to return and serve their homeland upon completing their studies, reflecting a core principle of the Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Fund—building local human capacity for sustainable development.
The Scholarship Fund’s Coordinator, Mr. Habib Mufty Borerijnkpr, described the milestone as “just the tip of the iceberg,” revealing that two additional students are slated to depart for the United Kingdom next year under the same initiative.
This inaugural cohort signifies the launch of a transformative vision: equipping Gonjaland’s brightest minds with world-class education, beginning with healthcare, to foster a self-sustaining future anchored in knowledge, service, and cultural pride.
