The Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund
The Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund is an educational initiative established by His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom. The aim of the Fund is to support students who hail from the Savannah Region, particularly those who are financially disadvantaged, to access quality and equitable education.
The Yagbonwura launched the Fund on September 23, 2024, during his maiden Damba Celebration, which brought together sons and daughters of Gonjaland. The Fund was inspired by the Yagbonwura’s commitment to addressing the deeply concerning decline in educational standards across the Savannah Region.
According to the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Savannah Region consistently records some of the lowest transition rates from basic to tertiary education—primarily due to financial hardship, limited access to academic guidance, and systemic inequalities in the education sector. The region, according to GES, has the lowest literacy rate in the country at 32.8%.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) reinforces this reality in its Multidimensional Poverty Report, which shows that the Savannah Region is one of the most deprived areas in the country—especially in terms of educational achievement and access to learning resources.
At the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund, we believe that where you come from should not determine how far you can go. Through strategic partnerships and community support, we are paving the way for a new generation of educated leaders from the Savannah Region.

Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Scheme
The Bii-Kunuto Scholarship Scheme was established under the Bii-Kunuto Educational Fund to identify promising students from Gonjaland and support them in accessing both local and international funding opportunities for higher education.
The mission of the scholarship scheme is to unlock the potential of brilliant young individuals by empowering them with the education and support needed to become changemakers in their communities and beyond.
In line with this mission to raise educational standards and bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura appointed Mr. Borejunkpar Muftawu Habibu as the Scholarship Coordinator on April 3, 2025.
Mr. Muftawu is widely respected for his integrity, dedication to youth development, and passion for education. He is tasked with leading efforts to identify and guide deserving students through scholarship opportunities, reduce the financial burden on families, and promote academic excellence across Gonjaland.
